SILENT SURVIVOR / DRY YOUR TEARS

Opening and ending theme songs of the fourth part of the Hokuto no Ken TV series, spanning from the post-Souther arc to the fall of Raoh, “SILENT SURVIVOR” and “DRY YOUR TEARS” replaced Crystal King’s themes starting from episode 83. The single was released on August 21, 1986, by Canyon Records under the SEE-SAW label.

On the single’s sleeve, Tsuyoshi Ujiki is credited as writer, composer, and arranger of both tracks; other sources, including Young Guitar in 2026, attribute the B-side lyrics to KATZ&JICK and Masayuki Tanaka, the high voice of Crystal King. The chanted refrain “DO SURVIVE” became one of the series’ rallying cries. Ujiki told Young Guitar in 2026 that one verse of the song was changed under pressure from producer Yoshio Takami: “夢を捨てて” (giving up on dreams), the image of a Kenshiro fighting for nothing, became “夢を求めて” (seeking them out), because “you don’t abandon your dreams.” The band, which on principle refused to let anyone alter their lyrics, gave in for the one and only time.
