Falco (ファルコ) is one of the major characters in the second part of Hokuto no Ken. Heir to the Gento Kōken and Golden Light General of the Celestial Empire, he is considered the most powerful protector of the Emperor. A noble and disciplined warrior, Falco serves the Empire in order to preserve peace and protect the innocent, even if it means obeying the manipulations of Jakoh. His sense of duty and loyalty make him one of the most respected adversaries of Kenshiro.
Falco is recognized as the successor of Gento Kōken, a formidable martial art capable of projecting destructive energy comparable to a cutting light. Thanks to this technique, he becomes the General of the Golden Light, the highest military rank of the Celestial Empire.
Unlike the other imperial generals, Falco seeks neither power nor domination. He acts above all to maintain the stability of the kingdom and protect the Celestial Emperor, whom he considers innocent. His authority and strength inspire respect, both among the imperial soldiers and his enemies.
Several years before the events of the Imperial arc, when Raoh threatens to attack his village, Falco chooses to sacrifice himself in order to spare his people. He cuts off his own right leg as a pledge of submission, a gesture reminiscent of Shuh, who once sacrificed his eyes before the same conqueror.
Impressed by this act of selflessness, Raoh spares the village. Before departing, however, he predicts that Falco will one day have to eliminate Jakoh, in whom he senses the source of future misfortunes. Since that day, Falco moves about equipped with a prosthetic on his right leg, but his power remains intact.
When Kenshiro and the Hokuto Army rise against the Celestial Empire, Falco finds himself forced to confront them under pressure from Jakoh, who holds the Celestial Emperor hostage and threatens his loved ones. Torn between his duty as a protector and the respect he feels toward Kenshiro, he ultimately accepts the duel with no illusions about its outcome. The battle between the two masters quickly becomes one of the most memorable clashes of the second part of the series. The luminous techniques of Gento Kōken pitted against Hokuto Shinken give rise to a duel of rare intensity, in which Falco demonstrates power worthy of Kenshiro's greatest adversaries.
Defeated but spared, Falco earns Kenshiro's deep respect, as Kenshiro understands that he was never driven by cruelty. After the fall of Jakoh, Falco sets out alone for the Land of Shura in order to find Rin, who was abducted by the Empire's enemies.
Having arrived alone on the Land of Shura, still weakened by his injuries from the battle against Kenshiro, Falco faces a young demon whose level is still too low to deserve an official name among the Shura. Despite the apparent weakness of his opponent, Falco, still weakened by his fight against Kenshiro, is overpowered and even has his prosthetic leg torn off.
Kenshiro then arrives and strikes Falco's vital point Sekkatsukō, a technique that temporarily multiplies his power tenfold at the cost of an accelerated death. With this restored strength, Falco finishes off the Nameless Asura, but his body is now doomed. Falco dies shortly after in Kenshiro's arms, happy to learn that his companion Myū is expecting a son from him who will one day inherit Gento Kōken. Until his very last breath, he remains true to his principles, embodying the image of an honorable warrior willing to sacrifice everything to protect others.
In April 2017, Falco's past is explored in the dramatic one-shot Golden Guy, published in volume 7 of Hokuto no Ken: Ichigo Aji. The story, set in the secret village of the Gen-Tō clan, depicts the confrontation between Falco and his elder brother Soria, who volunteers for a suicide mission to eliminate an enemy troop threatening the sanctuary where the future Tentei is growing up. Soria, who was never able to fully master the Shining Hand (光る手, Hikaru Te), is neutralized by Falco in a devastating clash. The final twist reveals that Soria survived: he is the character whom Falco respectfully addresses during Raoh's visit to the Gen-Tō village in the original manga (reference: Kyūkyoku-ban, volume 12, page 63).
