AnimeLand #251, feature “Hokuto no Ken” (Ynnis Éditions, July-September 2025)

Overview AnimeLand is the oldest French magazine devoted to Japanese animation and manga, founded in 1991 and now published by Ynnis Éditions. Its issue #251 puts Hokuto no Ken on the cover and makes it its main feature, in the wake of the exhibition marking the series' fortieth anniversary in Tokyo. After the Third Éditions essay, it is the second French publication entirely devoted to the series, and the first in the press.

The two authors of the Third Éditions book are among the contributors. Paul Gaussem opens the feature with “Anatomie d'une lutte” and writes the portraits of Tetsuo Hara and Buronson. Guillaume Lopez writes about the anime series, “L'école de la bravoure.” In between, Bruno de la Cruz tells the story of the founding of Coamix around Nobuhiko Horie, and Tsukasa Hōjō, co-founder of the company, answers the magazine's questions. The anime section covers Masami Suda, storyboarding, the animated spin-offs and the history of the French version, from self-censorship to controversy. Three veterans of the production speak, the animators Jun'ichi Hayama, interviewed by Emmanuel Bochew, and Takuya Wada, then Yoshitomo Yonetani, assistant producer and assistant director. Photos of the opening of the Tokyo exhibition, attended by Hara and Buronson, and original artwork illustrate the whole.

A second feature widens the scope to post-apocalyptic manga, with a history of the genre and meetings with Masakazu Ishiguro, Oh! great, Kei Urana and Hideyoshi Andō.
