Hokuto no Ken (Banpresto) (北斗の拳)

Gameplay

The first game in the series on Sega Saturn, it is also Banpresto’s launch title on this console. The gameplay primarily relies on animated sequences in the style of the TV series, interspersed with combat phases triggered during movement or after certain events. The cast features the original voice actors from the anime, starting with Kamiya Akira as Kenshiro. The game became famous in Japan for its long, unskippable walking scenes, which earned it the mocking nickname of “end-of-century strolling game.”

The scenario is supervised by Buronson and written by Toda Hiroshi, who had already worked on several games and episodes of the anime. The story takes place after the manga but contradicts its chronology, as characters who died in the original work, such as Ryuken or Toki, appear alive. A PlayStation version was released on August 30, 1996, with the walking sequences removed.
