The machine abandons the system of its predecessor in favor of a more accessible gameplay flow, with a first win that is easier to obtain. The counter inherited from the pachislot is present and counts down up to sixteen rounds, a sign of how mechanics circulate between the two types of machines at Sammy.

The modes draw on the vocabulary of the work: the “Shukumei no Toki,” the hour of destiny, and its superior version, as well as a “Tenju” mode that gives the machine its name. A “Dragon Stage” is triggered by three dragon patterns and features a five-clawed dragon undulating across the screen.

Several sequences draw directly from the manga: original illustrations depicting battles scroll by, accompanied by dialogue from the manga. Another sequence successively presents five men who have borne the Hokuto, and seeing Kasumi Kenshiro appear at the end of the series heralds the best outcome. A rare sequence displays the phrase “Dream of the blue sky, implore the blue sky,” taken from the work. The term “Pengyou,” meaning companions, already serves as a sequence name here, seven years before lending its title to the 2019 pachislot. The cabinet bears the name “Cross.”
