The machine deliberately replicates the mechanics of the Hokuto no Ken pachislot released by Sammy in 2003, which held the sector’s sales record at the time. It features the same mode system, and two counters flanking the reels count down the remaining games, also inherited from the original machine.

The bonus sequences bear names drawn from the original work. The “Shiai no Toki” (the hour of the death match) serves as the main sequence: during its final games, a showdown against a rival begins, and as long as Kasumi Kenshiro is not defeated, the sequence continues. Above it comes the “Tenju no Gi” (the rite of celestial investiture), which stages the decisive duel against Liu Zongwu. A narrative sequence can also trigger, unfolding up to fifty games of story.

Worth noting

The machine’s officially registered type name is “Souten no Ken Z.” It sold approximately ninety-two thousand units as of March 31, 2011. Sammy released a soundtrack album derived from the machine, as well as an alternate panel featuring Liu Zongwu, released after launch. The machine was compatible with MySlot, a service that allowed players to link their game session to their mobile phone.
