Hokuto no Ken Kenoh-gun Zako-tachi no Banka
Hokuto no Ken Kenoh-gun Zako-tachi no Banka is a comedic manga in three volumes written and drawn by Kurao Hiroshi, based on the original work by Buronson and Tetsuo Hara. Prepublished on the Coamix Manga Hot app from November 26, 2017 to February 23, 2020, it was collected in volumes by North Stars Pictures under the Zenon Comics label. It was Kurao Hiroshi's first professional title, after which he went on to create another comedic spin-off of the universe with Seikimatsu Drama Satsuei-den.
Synopsis
199X. In a world engulfed by nuclear flames, mere survival is already an ordeal. Yet it is here that Nobu, an ordinary young man, lands a job, and not just anywhere: in the famous army of Kenoh! In this far too dangerous workplace, where there are more deaths than applicants, how long will Nobu stay alive?
The saga as seen by the henchmen
The series reverses the perspective of Hokuto no Ken. This time, the heroes are no longer Kenshiro or his rivals, but the anonymous henchmen, mohawk-sporting punks and soldiers in studded shoulder pads that the original work mows down by the dozens. By following Nobu, a young recruit enlisted by mistake, the story revisits the major events of the manga by Buronson and Tetsuo Hara from the bottom of the hierarchy. From daily life in the prison of Cassandra under Uighur's command to looting duties, branding with a red-hot iron, or even an internal tournament pitting sixteen henchmen against each other to determine the most fearsome among them, the world of Hokuto no Ken is observed from an entirely new angle.
The iconic figures of the saga are not forgotten. Heart is naturally part of the journey, as is the flamethrower soldier from the Holy Emperor's army, always quick to call his victims "vermin" before "disinfecting" them. The humor even extends to the chapter titles, nearly all of which end with a death cry in homage to the original series, with a single exception: the last one.
An animated adaptation
On September 13, 2025, the anniversary of Hokuto no Ken, a short-format anime adaptation is announced.
