Anna

Anna (アンナ) is a character exclusive to the manga Gokuaku no Hana - Hokuto no Ken : Jagi Gaiden ("The Flower of Evil", 2008-2009), written and drawn by Sin-ichi Hiromoto. A member of the biker gang led by her brother Boss, she meets Jagi as he flees the Hokuto dojo. Unlike most people who cross his path, Anna does not judge Jagi for his violence or his jealousy toward Kenshiro and Toki. She quickly becomes one of the few people capable of soothing the anger and inner turmoil that consume him. In a gaiden centered on the childhood and downfall of a deeply tormented character, Anna represents the only true glimmer of humanity in Jagi's journey.

Jagi's only confidante

The Jagi Gaiden revisits Jagi's formative years and seeks to explain how he became the cruel man seen in the original work. Anna plays an essential role in this story, as she is one of the only people around whom Jagi shows a more human side. While he constantly lives in the shadow of his brothers-in-arms and suffers from a deep sense of inferiority, he finds in her sincere support and rare comfort.

Anna encourages Jagi to believe in his own destiny and supports his ambition to become the successor of Hokuto Shinken. Her presence even indirectly influences Kenshiro. During training bouts between the two disciples, she reproaches Kenshiro for holding back his strikes against Jagi, thus pushing the latter to fight more seriously. However, this situation intensifies Jagi's resentment and hastens his departure from Ryuken's dojo.

The tragedy after the nuclear war

After Jagi's disappearance, Anna continues for many long years to hope for his return. But when the nuclear war plunges the world into chaos, her brother's gang is attacked by raiders turned predators. Anna is captured by a rival gang. Boss loses his arm trying to defend her, and the young woman, after a first escape attempt, is caught and killed in the desert.

Gravely wounded, she nonetheless manages to reach the Hokuto dojo where she collapses into the arms of Kenshiro, whom she mistakes in her final moments for Jagi. When Jagi discovers her death, he falls into total despair. Mad with rage, he tracks down those responsible and massacres them using the most forbidden techniques of Hokuto, thus transgressing the sacred rules of the school. Even after her death, Anna remains symbolically linked to Jagi, appearing in his final hallucinations as the memory of the only person who truly saw the humanity hidden behind his madness.
