Asuka
Asuka (アスカ) is the adoptive daughter of Ein. Although she is not a fighter, she holds an essential place in the Celestial Empire arc, as she represents the only family of the famous bounty hunter. Asuka embodies Ein's vulnerable side, being both his greatest source of love and his greatest weakness, one that his enemies will seek to exploit in order to coerce him, starting with the men of Governor Jakoh.
Ein's weakness exploited by the Empire
After taking in Asuka when she was still just a child, Ein develops a relationship with her close to that of a true father. Behind his cynical and provocative mercenary attitude, he hides a deep attachment to the young girl, whom he considers the most important person in his life.
It is largely to provide for Asuka's needs that Ein accepts the most dangerous contracts, including the one that sends him in pursuit of Kenshiro. Confronted with a fighter of the caliber of the Hokuto heir, Ein begins to doubt the validity of his mission, but his daughter remains his primary driving force.
The liberation of Asuka
When Ein joins Bat and Rin's Hokuto Army, he entrusts Asuka to Ren, another bounty hunter he believes he can trust. But Ren betrays him and hands the young girl over to the men of the Celestial Empire, who plan to use her as leverage. Kenshiro intervenes to save her and places her in the care of Mamiya and Airi. This liberation definitively seals the break between Ein and the Empire, whose member Beron had attempted through this kidnapping to punish him for joining the rebellion.
Once Asuka is out of danger, Ein can fight freely alongside Kenshiro and the Hokuto Army, which he had chosen to join despite the danger hanging over his daughter. Later, he will sacrifice his life to save Bat, Mew, Rin and Lui from a flooded cell, and Asuka, refusing to cry so that her father may rest in peace, will hand his gloves to Kenshiro as a memento. Like Airi in the story of Rei, Asuka thus plays an important symbolic role in Hokuto no Ken: that of an innocent figure whose existence reveals the hidden humanity of a solitary and violent warrior.
