Diamond (ダイヤ) is one of the four lieutenants of the KING organization in Hokuto no Ken, part of the "Trump Brothers" named after playing card suits alongside Heart, Spade and Club. Serving under the orders of Shin, he is voiced by Daisuke Gōri in the TV series and is recognizable by his red hair and malevolent clown makeup reminiscent of the Joker. A specialist in bōjutsu, the art of the long staff, he wields a combat pole that he spins before striking suddenly.
Like the other executives of the organization, Diamond is an instrument of the terror that Shin imposes on the survivors. He forces the villages under his authority to work for KING and takes pleasure in torturing his victims for fun. In the manga version, Kenshiro catches him in the act of slowly hanging a peasant whose daughter is trying to keep him balanced on her shoulders to prevent the rope from strangling him, a scene directly inspired by Sergio Leone's Once Upon a Time in the West. In the anime, the staging is replaced by a William Tell pantomime: Diamond forces a father to shoot with a bow at a tin can placed on his own son's head. Kenshiro intercepts the arrow in mid-flight and sends it back at one of Diamond's men, whom Diamond then impales with his staff for his failure, before facing the successor of Hokuto Shinken.
Convinced that his position within KING and the reach of his staff guarantee him the advantage, Diamond engages in combat without any real hesitation. The masterful handling of his pole, however, proves powerless against Hokuto Shinken. Kenshiro quickly neutralizes his attacks and finishes him off with the Kōshu Hagan Ken (交首破顔拳, "Face-Breaking Fist by Neck Twisting"), a knee strike to the face that literally splits Diamond's head into two halves. The one-shot Recollection of Heavy Metal reveals that before the nuclear war, Diamond and Club were members of a heavy metal band and gives Diamond's real name: Takashi Yamamura (山村たかし).
