Editorial Charter
Who We Are
Hokuto Chronicles is an independent English-language editorial platform dedicated to the universe of Fist of the North Star, created by Tetsuo Hara (art) and Buronson (story), first published in September 1983 in Shueisha’s Weekly Shōnen Jump. Our coverage extends to all works in the franchise, including Souten no Ken and its spin-off series.
The project is no newcomer to the fan landscape. Hokuto Chronicles traces its roots to a community forum founded in 2006 by Falco199x, Bluemystic and Kaioh, which evolved in 2009 into a full editorial reference site dedicated to the franchise. For several years it stood as one of the leading encyclopedic resources on Fist of the North Star, documenting news, releases and the full breadth of the franchise’s universe, before closing its doors in 2013.
On April 16, 2026, coinciding with the release of a new animated adaptation broadcast on Prime Video, Hokuto Chronicles was reborn in a modernized form. The site adopts a contemporary design and a range of features suited to current usage, while preserving the editorial standards that defined its identity.
Our Mission
Hokuto Chronicles pursues two complementary missions: covering franchise news in real time, and building lasting reference documentation on its works and the key figures of the Hokuto no Ken universe.
Our coverage spans:
- News on releases, adaptations, merchandise and events related to the franchise
- Critical analysis: episode verdicts, previews, in-depth features
- Reference entries on works, their editions, volumes and episodes
- A catalog of official figures and merchandise
- Profiles of the authors, artists, sculptors and other craftspeople behind the franchise
- Coverage of partners (publishers, manufacturers, studios) and their work
- A bridge to international fans and active communities abroad
Our Independence
Hokuto Chronicles is an unofficial fan site. We have no commercial, contractual or hierarchical ties with Coamix, Shueisha, TMS Entertainment, Prime Video, or any other commercial entity connected to the franchise.
All rights to Fist of the North Star and its derivative works belong to their respective owners (© Buronson & Tetsuo Hara / Shueisha / Coamix). Our coverage is exercised within the framework of the right of quotation, criticism and news reporting.
Sources and Verification
Every factual claim published on the site must be traceable to an identified source. When in doubt, we prefer an empty field to reconstructed data: the absence of information is declared, never filled in.
Source Hierarchy
We rank our sources from strongest to weakest, and always prioritize the highest available level:
- The object itself: original Japanese edition, colophon, obi, box, episode credits, title screen.
- Authors’ writings and statements: essays, afterwords, columns, dated interviews, with the original Japanese text preserved.
- Official publications: publishers’, studios’ and manufacturers’ websites, press releases, release announcements.
- Established documentary databases: Media Arts Database, publisher records, Japanese retail catalogs.
- Recognized secondary sources, as a last resort and identified as such: Anime News Network, specialist press, collector blogs that cite their own sources.
We never source information from another fan page, whether French or English. That is the primary channel through which copied errors spread.
What We Verify, According to Content Type
- Manga: the colophon of the Japanese edition is the authoritative source for the release date, publisher, volume number, and ISBN. Chapter titles and credits are taken from title pages, not from online tables of contents. The narrative content of an entry can only assert what the pages themselves show.
- Anime: episode credits and title cards serve as the reference for credits, title spelling, and cast. The names of voice actors and production staff are given in Japanese order.
- Figures and merchandise: the photographed box, blister packaging, and instruction sheet constitute the primary source for the reference, sculptor, height, contents, and catalog price. We systematically distinguish between the launch price and the price observed on the secondary market.
- Profiles and biographies: personal facts are based on the subject’s own writings or on dated interviews, and are explicitly attributed to their source. Data liable to change — role, status, age — is dated rather than stated in the absolute present.
- Features: every claim is checked page by page against the relevant work or pages before being written up. A hypothesis put forward by a Japanese source remains a hypothesis in our text.
Translations and quotations
Translations from Japanese are our own unless otherwise noted. A quotation in quotation marks stays close to the source text: we add nothing and move nothing. When a formulation cannot be rendered faithfully, we switch to an attributed paraphrase rather than keeping approximate quotation marks. Official publisher summaries are reproduced in clearly identified blocks, separate from our own writing.
When the reading of a Japanese name is not attested — by furigana or by an official romanization — we retain the kanji alone rather than proposing an uncertain transcription.
Rumors and unconfirmed information
When information is not confirmed by a verifiable official or primary source, we explicitly flag it as such, or we do not publish it. No rumor is treated as confirmed information.
Certain claims have been circulating for years across the web without any identifiable source. We exclude them from our entries, and we document the reasons for their removal in our reference features when their circulation warrants it.
Methodology and tools
Like any modern site, we use the digital tools at our disposal to optimize our coverage: news aggregators to monitor official Japanese sources, specialized translation tools, design tools for producing visuals and banners, and AI assistance for certain technical aspects of the site (development, graphic design) and for the initial identification of news to cover.
The English version of the site is produced from the French version through AI-assisted machine translation, then proofread. Pages concerned carry a notice at the top of the article. French remains the reference language: in the event of any discrepancy between the two versions, the French text prevails.
Critical analyses, opinions, verdicts, editorial angles, and the writing of each article are determined and validated by our team. Every factual piece of information published is verified against its primary sources before publication.
Declared affiliations
In the interest of transparency, we declare the following partnerships:
- Amazon Associates: we use Amazon affiliate links, notably to Prime Video for links leading to the Hokuto no Ken 2026 anime, as well as to Amazon Japan for merchandise. A commission may be paid to us following a purchase made after a click, at no extra cost to the visitor.
- 199X Generazione Hokuto partnership: we exchange information and coverage with this Italian site dedicated to Hokuto no Ken, with no commercial relationship or financial consideration.
These commissions help cover the site’s hosting and operating costs. They have no influence whatsoever on the choice of topics covered or the content of our analyses.
No Undisclosed Sponsored Content
We commit to accepting no editorial arrangement involving the undisclosed promotion of a product, service, or actor within the franchise. Any future sponsored content will be clearly identified within the relevant article by the label “Sponsored Article”, “In partnership with”, or equivalent.
