In 2006, the Hokuto no Ken saga returned to theatres with a new series of films. To accompany the release of the first one, devoted to Raoh, manufacturer Kaiyodo launched the Movie Figure Collection, five figures taken straight from the feature, all sculpted by Matsuura Ken.

Five heroes from the big screen
This first set, billed as Part 1 on the box, carries the film’s subtitle, Raoh Den Jun’ai no Shō. It brings together five ten-centimetre characters at three hundred yen. Among them are Kenshiro, heir to Hokuto Shinken, Raoh in his conqueror’s armour, Emperor Souther clad in his own, and Shû of Nanto Hakuro Ken.
The fifth figure is the most unexpected. It is Reina, head of the Kenoh army’s bodyguard, created for the film and supplied with her weapon. Her design is no one’s afterthought: it is by Tsukasa Hōjō, the author of City Hunter, as the back of the box points out. A nod between two manga landmarks that makes this Reina a piece apart.

A Kaiyodo and Happinet Robin production
Designed and manufactured by Kaiyodo, the series was distributed by Happinet Robin, the same pairing as the six Nanto masters busts and the Capsule Eiyuroku, both released the same year. The sculptor is credited on the box front and on the leaflet alike, 原型製作：松浦健, for all five pieces. ATBC-PVC figures, ABS bases, made in China, NSP licence MQ-406.
Finding them today
This collection tied to the film’s release can still be found individually or as a complete set on Yahoo! Auctions, Mercari and Suruga-ya. A keepsake from the period when Hokuto no Ken found its way back to the big screen.
