Hokuto no Ken 2 : Seikimatsu Kyūseishu Densetsu (北斗の拳2 世紀末救世主伝説)
Gameplay
The core concept remains that of the first Famicom game, with scrolling action where Kenshiro punches through waves of enemies until reaching the boss of each stage. This time the scrolling moves to the right, resulting in improved readability. The power-up system has been expanded: in addition to “abeshi,” there are now “hidedebu,” another onomatopoeia from the manga. Players must first collect “abeshi” until reaching four stars, then collect “hidedebu.” A mode also allows players to fight the bosses directly, from Bask to Solia. As in the previous game, certain doors can only be opened with a specific button combination, a point that often stumped players.
Of note
Still developed by Shouei System and published by Toei Animation, this second installment is often described as a minor evolution of the first, with improved graphics but a very similar structure. It introduces a few characters unique to the game or drawn from the anime, including the boss Bronza. Like the first installment, it was never released outside of Japan.
