11View all imagesHokuto no Ken Anime 2026 (北斗の拳) is the 2026 animated adaptation of the eponymous manga by Tetsuo Hara and Buronson. Produced by studio TMS Entertainment, it began airing on Friday, April 10, 2026 simultaneously in Japan (TOKYO MX, BS11) and as a worldwide exclusive stream on Prime Video. Announced on the occasion of the franchise's 40th anniversary, the project is directed by Maeda Hiroshi, with Ogasawara Kazuma as co-director and Inukai Kazuhiko handling series composition.
199X. The world is engulfed in nuclear flames. The seas dry up, the earth cracks open, and all forms of life seem to have vanished. Yet humanity has survived. On the ruins of civilization, people cling to hope and struggle to find water and food, but their aspirations are crushed by violence: only strength is law, and the weak can only endure.
It is in this despair that a man appears, bearing seven scars on his chest, heir to the legendary assassination art known as Hokuto Shinken. His name is Kenshiro. Driven by the pursuit of his enemy Shin, who took his fiancee Yuria from him, he wanders the desert and answers the pleas of the oppressed, bringing them a glimmer of hope. Standing against him are the brutal survivors of the apocalypse, whose ambition and greed have been unleashed by the chaos. In a world where prayers no longer reach the heavens, Kenshiro carves his path with his fists through the madness of a dying century.
The adaptation is carried predominantly by computer-generated imagery (3DCG), a deliberate choice by the production to reproduce the density of Tetsuo Hara's linework, complemented by traditional animation sequences, particularly during certain flashbacks. Director Maeda Hiroshi explained that he conceived the series' dark cinematography as a reflection of a world devoid of hope, which Kenshiro's arrival gradually illuminates. Animation production is handled by TMS Entertainment and 7studio, with the collaboration of NIA Animation and Kishida inc. Studio BACU on CG production.
The original soundtrack is composed by Hayashi Yuki, known for My Hero Academia, who approached the score around a single question: how to translate the feeling of the end of the world into music, using rock and metal as a foundation. The opening theme, "Hallelujah," is performed by [Alexandros]. The ending theme reprises "Ai wo Torimodose !!," the opening anthem of the 1984 anime created by Crystal King, in a version performed by Toshl (X Japan), placing the new series in direct lineage with its predecessor.

The broadcast began on Friday, April 10, 2026, simultaneously in Japan on TOKYO MX and BS11 and as a worldwide exclusive stream on Prime Video. International distribution is handled by Warner Bros. Japan / Coamix. This first block of fourteen episodes, airing through June 26, 2026, constitutes the first cour of the series. A second cour was announced for 2027 at the end of the final episode, revealed by a teaser introducing Jagi. The version streamed online on Prime Video is uncensored, while Japanese television airs a toned-down version.
