Hokuto no Ken Yuria Gaiden : Jibo no Hoshi
Hokuto no Ken Yuria Gaiden : Jibo no Hoshi (北斗の拳 ユリア外伝 慈母の星) is a one-volume manga, serialized between 2006 and 2007 in Big Comic Superior. The art is by Kasai Akimi, based on an original concept by Buronson and Tetsuo Hara. This story devoted to Yuria takes place before the nuclear war, at a time when Kenshiro, Shin and Jûza do not yet know their destiny. It is the only gaiden in the series published outside of Weekly Comic Bunch.
Synopsis
At the end of this millennium, in a world engulfed by despair, a saintly woman brings light to a humanity brought to its knees. Her encounters with exceptional warriors will shape her soul and guide her along the path of her star. Her name is... Yuria!
Changing destiny
The first part of the story revolves around Saya. Yuria sees in her visions the young girl's impending death, condemned by illness, and comes up against the limits of her gift: foreseeing events without being able to change their course, and she is unable to read her own future. Kenshiro's benevolence offers Saya a peaceful end, and it is following this grief that Yuria chooses to take to the road at his side.
The second part brings onto the stage the two men who will shape her destiny. Shin, who has come to receive the seal of transmission of the Nanto Koshūken, faces Yuria's judgment, as she rejects his way of fighting and loving, utterly devoid of tenderness. A confined setting then brings together Yuria, Shin and Jûza, held aboard a ship, where both rivals' shared will to protect her already outlines the roles they will play later on. Yuria reveals to each of them the great mission that heaven has in store for him, directly echoing the destinies that will be theirs in the original manga. The story concludes with the chapter Un amour immense.
The Shogakukan exception
Yuria Gaiden holds a unique place among the series' gaiden: it is the only one to have been published outside Weekly Comic Bunch, in Shogakukan's Big Comic Superior. Its serialization took place in two phases, with three chapters in spring 2006, then six more in 2007, before the standalone volume was released in September 2007. The colophon credits Coamix and North Stars Pictures as production partners, attesting to the maintained link with the license's editorial team despite the change of magazine.

Éditions
The story was prepublished in Shogakukan's Big Comic Superior in two runs, in issues 7 to 9 of 2006, then in issues 7 to 9 and 11 to 13 of 2007. The single volume was released on September 4, 2007 by Shogakukan, under the Big Comics Special label, with the cooperation of Coamix and North Stars Pictures for the production.
In France, Asuka published the story in June 2009, in a single volume, under the title Hokuto no Ken : La Légende de Julia, alongside the release of the DVD of the OAV dedicated to the character. Crunchyroll reissued it on July 5, 2023 as a 224-page volume. Both French editions use the spelling Julia for the character's name.
