Shiva
Shiva (シバ) is the son of Shû, a young boy and member of the resistance against Souther in the Holy Emperor arc. His sacrifice to free a defeated and imprisoned Kenshiro becomes the direct trigger for the Hokuto Shinken successor's reawakening after his humiliation at the hands of Nanto Hōōken. Although he never learned his father's martial art, Shiva embodies through his actions the destiny of the Star of Benevolence that Shû had tried to spare him from.
A deliberately untransmitted legacy
Shû deliberately chose not to teach Nanto Hakurō Ken to his son. Aware of the curse attached to the Star of Benevolence (仁星, Jinsei), which condemns its bearers to sacrifice and servitude for future generations, he wanted to spare Shiva from this path. But his father's blood runs in his veins: without even knowing the techniques of Nanto, the child would act according to the ethics they impose. In the gaiden Sōkoku no Garō - Rei Gaiden (2007-2009), a memory evokes the fishing trips shared by Shû's family with Rei and his young sister Airi; the young Shiba was particularly attached to Airi.
The dynamite sacrifice
When Kenshiro is defeated and imprisoned by Souther, who prepares to use him as a human sacrifice for his mausoleum, it is Shiva who infiltrates the prison to organize his escape. He then volunteers to create a diversion: he lures Souther's soldiers into a canyon where he has planted sticks of dynamite, then triggers the explosion that buries his pursuers and himself. The film Raoh Den : Junai no Sho (2006) reprises this scene with amplified visuals.
This act is the exact echo of Shû's original sacrifice: his father had once gouged out his own eyes to save the child Kenshiro after their first confrontation during the Nanto Junin Kumite. Shiva gives his life to free the warrior who will be able to avenge that first gift. When Shû miraculously regains his sight in his final moments, atop Souther's pyramid, he notices the physical resemblance between Kenshiro and his own son: two figures that his benevolence saved years apart.
