Alongside the main anime’s broadcast, a discreet mini spin-off is underway, Hokuto no Ken – Kenoh gun Zako-tachi no Banka (北斗の拳 拳王軍ザコたちの挽歌). Short comedic episodes centered on the daily lives of Raoh’s soldiers, the ones Kenshiro dispatches by the dozens without even remembering their names.
The concept
The spin-off is loosely inspired by the manga with a humorous perspective. The result is a series of short skits that play on the contrast between the ultra-violent universe of HNK and the absurd banality of everyday life for the apocalypse’s henchmen, who also have their little routines and daily problems.
Episode 3 “Maboroshi no Hyaaaah”
The 3rd episode is titled “Maboroshi no Hyaaaah” (幻のヒャッハ) and its pitch perfectly sums up the spirit of the spin-off: Nobu, a Zako, is caught reading the Hokuto no Ken manga. A soldier of Raoh’s Army reading his own adventures in manga form…
