The Hokuto Hyakuretsu Energy (北斗の拳 百裂エナジ), the official Hokuto no Ken energy drink produced by Kingmaker, is arriving in NewDays stores of JR East, the convenience stores located in the train stations of eastern Japan’s railway network. A distribution in the railway environment that significantly extends the product’s visibility.
A product launched in October 2024
The Hokuto Hyakuretsu Energy was launched on October 1, 2024 by Kingmaker, a company specializing in collaborations between Japanese licenses and consumer products. The drink is directly inspired by the Hokuto Hyakuretsu Ken (北斗百裂拳), Kenshiro’s signature technique, a barrage of over one hundred strikes on vital points. The collector packaging features visuals from the manga.
This is not a simple repackaging of an existing drink; according to the project’s creative director, approximately two years of development were needed to create an original recipe. The result is a 250 ml can whose caffeine content is 1.3 times higher than the average for energy drinks on the Japanese market, 41 mg per 100 ml, for a total of 102.5 mg per can, supplemented with arginine, inositol, and a B-vitamin complex.
NewDays / JR East distribution
The distribution in JR East’s NewDays stores marks a new milestone for the product, which was previously mainly available online (official website, Amazon Japan, Rakuten) or through direct checkout. NewDays are the in-station convenience stores operated by JR East, found in major stations across the Kantō region (Tokyo, Yokohama, Saitama…) and beyond. The presence in this network captures a traveler clientele, particularly receptive to products with a strong visual identity. The drink is available in a selection of NewDays stores, not the entire network.
Availability for French fans
The Hokuto Hyakuretsu Energy is not distributed outside of Japan, but it can be purchased through the usual Japanese proxy services (Buyee, FROM JAPAN, Tenso) or via the official website, which ships internationally for carton orders (30 cans at 259 yen per unit).
