Ten no Haoh : Hokuto no Ken Raoh Gaiden
Ten no Haoh : Hokuto no Ken Raoh Gaiden (天の覇王 北斗の拳 ラオウ外伝) is a manga in five volumes, serialized from March 2006 to 2007 in Weekly Comic Bunch. The art is by Osada Yuko, based on an original concept by Buronson and Tetsuo Hara. This story devoted to Raoh recounts his youth and his rise to the title of Kenoh, in a scenario filled with tributes to the life of Oda Nobunaga. It draws on the expanded universe of the Shin Kyūseishu Densetsu pentalogy, from which it borrows the original characters Reina and Soga. The manga was adapted into an animated series in 2008, then into a video game on PSP in 2009.
Synopsis
His name is Raoh. His school, Hokuto Shinken, is at the pinnacle of its power. The March of the Kenoh
The story follows step by step the construction of the Kenoh's empire. Raoh seizes the castle of the demon king Goram, where he proclaims himself Kenoh, foils the stratagems of Gion, the King of Cunning, then subdues Kokuō, the king of wild horses, in his valley. Next come the alliance with the Sacred Emperor, which turns out to be a trap, the betrayal of Yuda and the fall of the Kenoh-fu, then the capture of Toki and the birth of the dark legend of Cassandra. The campaign against the army of KING ultimately leads Ryūga to cross paths with Jûza, while Soga foils a conspiracy by infiltrating the enemy camp.
The serialization concludes with the final chapter, Les traces de sabots. The fifth volume then extends the story with two chapters that remained unpublished in magazine, devoted to Ryū, Raoh's son. The gaiden thus closes on the conqueror's legacy.
Nobunaga as an underlying thread
Ten no Haoh is the first gaiden in the series launched in Weekly Comic Bunch, which entrusts guest artists with spinoff stories supervised by Buronson and Tetsuo Hara. The scenario multiplies references to the life of Oda Nobunaga in its portrayal of the conquest led by the young Raoh, while drawing on the expanded universe of the Shin Kyūseishu Densetsu pentalogy, from which it borrows the original characters Reina and Soga. Its success paves the way for the subsequent gaiden, dedicated to Rei and then to Toki, before the manga itself is adapted into an animated series in 2008, then into a video game on PSP the following year.

The story was serialized in Weekly Comic Bunch from March 2006 to issue 14 of 2007. The five collected volumes were published by Shinchosha, under the Bunch Comics label, from July 7, 2006 to September 8, 2007. The fifth volume ends with two chapters added after the final chapter of the serialization, which the French edition refers to as secret chapters. The series was subsequently reissued by Tokuma Shoten, under the Tokuma Favorite Comics label, starting October 25, 2011, then digitally by Coamix on June 8, 2015, in five volumes, under the Zenon Comics label.
In France, Asuka published the five volumes under the title Hokuto no Ken: La Légende de Raoh, with the last volume released on October 8, 2009. This edition has been out of print since then. Crunchyroll picked up the series starting in January 2023 in a Perfect Edition in three volumes, with new covers harmonized with those of the Extrême Édition of Hokuto no Ken, which numbers the forty-four chapters consecutively.
