Shachi (シャチ), also known as Rasetsu (羅刹, "the Asura-devouring demon"), is one of the most complex and tragic characters in the Shura arc. The fourth disciple of Jukei in Hokuto Ryūken, he chose to remain in the Land of Shura rather than flee, out of love for Leia, the young woman he met there. He operates under a double disguise: in the eyes of the Asura, he is a Boro, one of those fallen warriors whose tendons have been severed and who are reduced to serving their former masters, and he has placed himself in the service of the Asura Alf of the Hourglass; in reality, he is the son of the pirate Akashachi and one of the most formidable warriors in the land.
It is Shachi who orchestrates the sending of Rin to the Rashō Han, used as bait to lure Kenshiro to Shura and trigger the downfall of the three Rashō. This cold calculation contrasts with his tenderness for Leia and with the loyalty he will come to feel for his father Akashachi, whom he briefly reunites with when the latter lands to come to their aid. Akashachi and his men trap Kaioh with grappling hooks and douse him with sulfuric acid, but the First Rashō kills Akashachi with a concealed crossbow bolt before plunging into the waves to escape the acid. To protect a grievously wounded Kenshiro after his first confrontation with Hyoh, Shachi tears out his own left eye and presents it to Hyoh as an offering: this act allows him to buy the time needed for the successor of Hokuto Shinken to recover, and symbolically unites him with his father, whose eye patch he adopts from that point on.
Once Hyoh's memories are restored, Shachi and Leia take charge of protecting the temple housing the secret teachings of the Hokuto Sōke ancestors. Kaioh ambushes them there. Aware that he cannot hope to defeat the first Rashō, Shachi holds his ground long enough to protect what must be protected and falls mortally wounded. He draws his last breath in Leia's arms. A notable detail of his graphic characterization: the sequence in which he drags a coffin containing an unconscious Kenshiro across the land of Shura to bring him to safety is a direct homage to the opening of the film Django (1966) by Sergio Corbucci, in which the title character pulls a coffin through the mud.
In the anime Hokuto no Ken 2 (1987-1988), Shachi is voiced by Hirotaka Suzuoki (1950-2006), known for his iconic roles as Bright Noa in Mobile Suit Gundam, Hyūga Kojirō in Captain Tsubasa, Shiryū du Dragon in Saint Seiya, and Tenshinhan in Dragon Ball.
